BUDRUS SOUND EDITED AND MIXED BY SCOTT FREIMAN

Scott completed sound design and mixing for the film Budrus, winner of a Special Jury Mention in the World Documentary Competition at the Tribeca Film Festival. Budrus has been featured in a number of film festivals, including the Dubai Film Festival, the Berlin International Film Festival (Silver Audience Award, Best Documentary), and the San Francisco International Film Festival (Audience Award).

Budrus was written and directed by Julia Bacha, the co-director of Encounter Point for which Scott also provided sound design and the final mix. Budrus is the story of a Palestinian-led movement in the West Bank that brings together all Palestinian political factions and Israelis to wage a 10-month nonviolent struggle to protect the village of Budrus from destruction. The people of Budrus reject revenge in favor of Gandhian approaches to resolving conflict.

WHY US? LEFT BEHIND AND DYING

SOUND EDITED AND MIXED BY SCOTT FREIMAN AND JOEL DOUEK

Each year, up to 30,000 African-Americans are newly infected with HIV. In Africa, 14 million people died from AIDS in just eight years. Why Us? Left Behind and Dying follows a group of students from Pittsburgh’s Westinghouse High School as they learn about the origins of HIV/AIDS and its hold on the Black community. The film, which was primarily funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is both a documentary and a research study with students acting as reporters and research subjects.

Why Us? was produced and directed by Claudia L. Pryor, a former producer for ABC, NBC, and PBS. Her most recent documentary films aired on PBS, exploring the subjects of African-Americans confronting the legacy of slavery, and the roots of homophobia in America. During her career, Pryor has earned many awards, including a George Foster Peabody and ten Emmy nominations.

In addition to cleaning and editing the sound for Why Us?, Scott created the sound design and a 5.1 surround mix for the film along with fellow Manhattan Producers Alliance member, Joel Douek.  The film will have its premiere at the IFC Center in New York City (323 Sixth Ave.) from Sept. 11-17, as well as at the Grande 4-Plex in Los Angeles (345 South Figueroa) from Sept. 9-15.

The official film Web site can be found at www.diversityfilms.org.
