Each year, up to 30,000 African-Americans are newly infected with HIV. In Africa, 14 million people died from AIDS in just eight years. Why Us? Left Behind and Dying follows a group of students from Pittsburgh’s Westinghouse High School as they learn about the origins of HIV/AIDS and its hold on the Black community. The film, which was primarily funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is both a documentary and a research study with students acting as reporters and research subjects. Why Us? was produced and directed by Claudia L. Pryor, a former producer for ABC, NBC, and PBS. Her most recent documentary films aired on PBS, exploring the subjects of African-Americans confronting the legacy of slavery, and the roots of homophobia in America. During her career, Pryor has earned many awards, including a George Foster Peabody and ten Emmy nominations. In addition to cleaning and editing the sound for Why Us?, Scott created the sound design and a 5.1 surround mix for the film along with fellow Manhattan Producers Alliance member, Joel Douek. The film will have its premiere at the IFC Center in New York City (323 Sixth Ave.) from Sept. 11-17, as well as at the Grande 4-Plex in Los Angeles (345 South Figueroa) from Sept. 9-15. The official film Web site can be found at www.diversityfilms.org. Check out the trailer for Why Us? Left Behind and Dying here. |

When Laurence Gingold, the writer and co-producer of the feature film Ivory, needed a sound editor and mixer for his film, he turned to Scott Freiman and Second Act Studio. It wasn't long before Scott was also hired to compose the original score of the film. Collaborating with fellow composer Michael Worth, Scott created an orchestral score inspired by the Brahms Concerto that features prominently in the film. Ivory, the tale of pianists competing in an international piano competition, stars Martin Landau (Ed Wood), Peter Stormare (Fargo), Beau Garrett (Tron 2.0), and Travis Fimmel ("The Beast").
